Mets general manager Sandy Alderson spoke with the media in Port St. Lucie on Sunday and alleviated any payroll concerns despite still having right fielder Jay Bruce on the roster by convincingly asserting that, “the Mets are all in” financially.
While there are no ongoing trade discussions at the moment to move Bruce, Alderson said the team is prepared to enter the season with its current contingent of players and then make adjustments from there.
Alderson also credited ownership for giving him the flexibility and the resources to bring payroll to where it is now and that he still had room for in-season additions if necessary. Currently, Mets payroll stands at roughly $152 million dollars.
“I feel we have the potential to be better than we were last year,” Sandy said about his team which has him more excited and he can’t wait to see good they will be.
